PARTS & MACHINING

Aluminum parts

Ask HAM about replacement parts, prototypes or new aluminum parts. Tell us what you know about the intended use and what the part needs to fit.

Discuss this part

Consultation, company search and introductions are free for buyers.

Replacement parts and new designs

Tell the manufacturer which mounting conditions and dimensions must stay unchanged.

EXISTING INSTALLATION

Keep the current fit

For a replacement mounting plate, identify the hole positions, threads and mating surfaces that must match the equipment. Separate wear or damage on the old part from the dimensions the replacement needs to meet.

Compare: Required fit, confirmed dimensions and proposed changes.

Example: A mounting plate for an existing sensor, with its hole positions preserved.

NEW PART OR CHANGED USE

Define the new part’s requirements

For a new bracket or enclosure, describe the load, connections and space available. Mark which dimensions are fixed and which the manufacturer can adjust. Discuss a prototype and the inspection method before production.

Compare: Development scope, prototype plan and inspection of the finished part.

Example: A bracket for a new sensor; the mounting interface is fixed and its outer shape is still open.

What to check with a manufacturer

Material and alloy
If you have them, share the alloy designation and material certificate for the existing part. For a new part, describe the heat, corrosion and load conditions. Review any material proposed by the manufacturer with your engineer.Protolabs — Aluminum CNC machining
Critical dimensions and finish
Mark the dimensions that control mounting or movement. Describe the finish separately: appearance, corrosion protection and functional surfaces may need different treatment. Confirm how any finishing operation affects the fit.Protolabs — CNC milling design guidelines · Protolabs — Aluminum CNC machining
Prototype and production quantity
Say whether this is a single replacement, a prototype or repeat production. Ask for the sample and inspection plan alongside the quotation. You can send drawings, sketches or photos by replying to HAM’s follow-up email.Protolabs — CNC milling design guidelines
