For an installed machine, the exact series and revision can affect whether a replacement fits the existing system. A similar name or enclosure is not enough to establish suitability.
A replacement in existing equipment
Discontinued modules can raise questions about system support, available replacements and the extent of any modification. A successor or alternative needs a separate compatibility assessment.
Components for a new application
A new application calls for the control function, signals, connected equipment and installation conditions to be considered together. Technical selection and approval should involve your engineering team and the relevant supplier.

- Run the control logic of production equipment. Relevant when maintaining an installed control system or planning a new control panel.

- Connect sensors and actuators to the control system. Signal type, channel count and the installed system matter when replacing or expanding a module.

- Supply electrical power to control-panel equipment. Output requirements and installation conditions matter for equipment upkeep and new panels.
- Communication modules
- Link controllers, equipment and industrial networks. Relevant when maintaining connections or adding equipment to an existing system.
